FMIPA ULM Conducts Benchmarking Visit to FMIPA UGM in Preparation for ASIIN International Accreditation
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) conducted a benchmarking visit to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on Thursday (August 6). The visit was held as part of ULM’s preparations to apply for international accreditation from ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics), while also strengthening its internal quality assurance system.
The event was opened by Prof. Drs. Roto, M.Eng., Ph.D., and attended by the Head of the Quality Assurance Unit and Heads of Departments at FMIPA UGM. Through the visit, FMIPA ULM sought to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the preparation and implementation of international accreditation, particularly ASIIN accreditation.
One of the main sessions was delivered by Prof. Mitrayana, Head of the Quality Assurance Unit and Curriculum Committee (UJM and KK) of FMIPA UGM, who discussed the implementation of UGM’s internal quality assurance system. He explained that UJM is mandated to oversee accreditation processes at both the national and international levels.
“We at UJM are mandated to oversee both national and international accreditation,” said Prof. Mitrayana.
In his presentation, Prof. Mitrayana explained that the quality assurance system at FMIPA UGM is implemented continuously through coordination meetings held each semester. The process involves various members of the academic community, from lecturers to students, including independent lecturers who participate in the evaluation process. FMIPA UGM also has a system for measuring the achievement of various established indicators.
According to Prof. Mitrayana, accreditation preparation should begin with clearly defined targets. Study programs need to first determine the accreditation outcomes they aim to achieve, such as an A or Excellent rating under the national accreditation system, before systematically preparing the required supporting documents. This is an important part of establishing institutional readiness before proceeding toward international accreditation.
The benchmarking visit was part of FMIPA ULM’s efforts to gain first-hand insights from FMIPA UGM’s experience in developing its quality assurance system and preparing for international accreditation. The exchange of knowledge and experience between the two faculties is expected to extend beyond the visit and develop into continued collaboration aimed at improving the quality of higher education.
Through this activity, FMIPA ULM and FMIPA UGM also contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through efforts to strengthen the quality and quality assurance systems of higher education. Collaboration between educational institutions also aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as improvements in educational quality can be strengthened through the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices among higher education institutions.
