Day Four of the Short School of Quantum Physics at the Department of Physics, FMIPA UGM, Explores Quantum Materials and Computing
The Department of Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held the Short School of Quantum Physics, a week-long program conducted in late July 2026. The program was organized in collaboration with three educational and research institutions: FMIPA UGM, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and the Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics (APCTP). The program was held in person at the RJMT Soehakso Auditorium, FMIPA UGM.
The Short School of Quantum Physics is an educational program covering fundamental concepts of quantum physics and their applications. The program brought together final-year undergraduate students, master’s students, and researchers with an interest in quantum physics.
The Short School of Quantum Physics reached its fourth day on Thursday, July 30, 2026. On the fourth day, the program continued with sessions led by speakers from BRIN and UGM. The first two sessions focused on quantum materials and topological phases, presented by Dr. Eddwi Hesky Hasdeo, S.Si., M.Sc., from BRIN. The following session covered quantum simulation and was delivered by Dr. Sasfan Arman Wella from BRIN. The final session addressed the principles of quantum computing and was presented by Prof. Drs. Pekik Nurwantoro, M.S., Ph.D., from the Department of Physics, FMIPA UGM.
Throughout the sessions, the speakers went beyond one-way instruction by actively engaging participants in solving equations and working through examples presented on the board.
The Short School of Quantum Physics also contributed to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by providing learning materials that covered quantum physics from fundamental concepts to practical applications. The program also supported SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and research organizations, creating opportunities for future academic and research partnerships.
