FMIPA UGM Establishes Partnership with Griffith University, Strengthening Academic and Research Collaboration

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) strengthened its academic collaboration with Griffith University through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 20, 2026. The collaboration was subsequently continued through an academic event featuring Prof. Dr. Qin Li from Griffith University as a speaker at Chemistry Advanced Studies Exploration (CASE) #4, organized by the Department of Chemistry, FMIPA UGM, on July 24, 2026.

The signing of the MoU marked an important step in strengthening institutional ties between FMIPA UGM and Griffith University. The agreement provides a foundation for expanding academic and research collaboration between the two institutions, including opportunities for future joint initiatives and knowledge exchange.

Beyond institutional cooperation, the academic partnership between the two institutions is also being strengthened through scholarly activities involving members of their academic communities. The Department of Chemistry at FMIPA UGM hosted Prof. Dr. Qin Li from Griffith University as a speaker at CASE #4, which focused on the topic “Carbon Dots: Catalyzing the Future of Green Quantum Materials.”

During the lecture, Prof. Qin Li discussed carbon dots in the context of developing green quantum materials. The discussion highlighted recent developments in carbon-dot-based materials and their potential to contribute to the development of more environmentally sustainable materials.

The participation of an academic from Griffith University in CASE further strengthened academic engagement between FMIPA UGM and its international partner. Through scholarly forums such as this, members of the academic community can gain insights into the latest developments in research while also creating opportunities for knowledge exchange with researchers from institutions abroad.

This series of activities reflects FMIPA UGM’s efforts to expand its international network through institutional partnerships complemented by academic activities. The collaboration with Griffith University is expected to provide opportunities for developing future educational and research partnerships in relevant fields.

The collaboration between FMIPA UGM and Griffith University also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals. Through institutional cooperation and international academic forums, the partnership creates opportunities for knowledge exchange, the strengthening of academic capacity, and the development of cross-institutional research. Through this partnership, FMIPA UGM continues to broaden its academic community’s access to global networks and developments in science and knowledge.
