FMIPA UGM and Pertamina EP Zona 4 Launch Joint Research to Drive Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Integration in the Energy Industry
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FMIPA UGM), alongside Pertamina EP (PEP) Zone 4, held their Final Meeting on October 29, 2026, at the Herman Johannes Auditorium, FMIPA UGM. This event marked a key milestone in an ongoing research collaboration geared toward leveraging Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address the operational demands of the energy industry.
The Dean of FMIPA UGM, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mhd. Reza M. I. Pulungan, S.Si., M.Sc., kicked off the session, which served as a formal forum to look back at research milestones while laying out future developments and applications of the findings. Furthermore, the meeting provided a platform to look back on past collaborative milestones and spot potential research directions closely tailored to industrial requirements.
By focusing on ML and AI applications, this alliance drives the digital transformation of the energy sector. A data-driven ML/AI framework turns raw data into actionable intelligence to back up analytical workflows and executive decision-making. Through this partnership, FMIPA UGM’s academic and research expertise is geared toward solving real-world industry challenges, opening up new avenues for science-based technologies to scale up into practical solutions.
This research synergy lines up with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, by rolling out ML/AI-driven innovations across the industrial landscape. Moreover, strengthening the university-industry bridge backs SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, tying academic capacity directly into industrial needs.
