A Collaboration Between Science and Art: FMIPA UGM and KAMIPAGAMA Present an Exhibition of Data and Creative Works in DATA.RT 2026
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), once again held the DATA.RT exhibition on October 5, 2026. Marking its second year, the exhibition featured 40 artworks by 37 artists from the FMIPA UGM academic community, including lecturers, students, and alumni.
Carrying the theme “Extending Life,” DATA.RT presents scientific data and experimental findings through visual art. The exhibition serves as a space where scientific precision and artistic sensitivity come together, allowing research findings to be communicated through visual representations that are more accessible to the public.
In his remarks, Daniel Oscar, Chair of KAMIPAGAMA, stated that in today’s era, science can no longer stand alone but needs to be integrated with empathy and art. Meanwhile, the Dean of FMIPA UGM, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Mhd. Reza M. I. Pulungan, S.Si., M.Sc., emphasized that scientific data and findings can be understood not only through numbers but also translated into engaging visual forms that are accessible to a wider audience.
In addition to the exhibition, the event featured a keynote speech and seminar with Dr. Michael Ho, an international scientist and artist. The opening ceremony was marked by a ribbon-cutting procession led by the Dean of FMIPA UGM, together with representatives of KAMIPAGAMA and the curatorial team. The event also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4, Quality Education, and Goal 17, Partnerships for the Goals.
