In response to fast-paced progress in information and communication technology (ICT) and increasing global and national demands for ICT professionals, the International Undergraduate Program of Computer Science is established in Universitas Gadjah Mada starting in the academic year of 2011/2012. The program offers overseas as well as Indonesian students an opportunity to study and obtain their Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with international standard and excellent curriculum.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF CS-IUP ESTABLISHMENT
The International Undergraduate Program of Computer Science commits to provide students with an education of the highest possible quality. There is essential policy of the program in terms of developing a program that provides resources to help students to be competitive in pursuing their future careers. In line with the Faculty’s vision and mission, the general goals and objectives of Computer Science International Undergraduate Program are to:
- Expand and reshape portfolio of the International Undergraduate Program of Computer Science services to higher quality and internationally competitive educational programs.
- Drive International Undergraduate Program of Computer Science position in international market of higher education in computer science.
- Meet international market demands for internationally oriented graduates.
- Strengthen the nation (especially UGM) competitiveness.
CURRICULUM
The educational objective of the degree program is to produce graduates that are able to be in the vanguard of the development of computer science, in particular, and science and technology, in general, to work and compete in the national and global market, and to pursue higher levels of education. The curriculum has been developed to meet international standard as well as the ACM Computing Curricula for Computer Science. A student must have passed at least 144 credits of courses to complete the study. The standard completion time of the program is 8 semesters (4 years). The courses are divided into two categories: compulsory and elective. Compulsory courses include, among others, Programming I and II, Database, Advanced Algorithms, Computer Networks, Software Development, Artificial Intelligent and Machine Learning, while elective courses include Distributed Algorithms, Digital Image Processing, Fuzzy Logics, Pattern Recognition, Data Mining and Business Intelligence, Information Retrieval, Digital Forensics, Network and Mobile Programming, Computational Big Data Analysis.
FACILITIES
In the Department of Computer Science and Electronics, the program is supported by 5 research laboratories (Algorithms and Computing, Intelligent Systems, Data and Software Engineering, Computer Systems and Networking, Electronics and Instrumentation) and 48 teaching staff members (23 Ph.D. holders, 16 of which graduated from foreign universities). Students have the opportunities to gain international exposure through student exchange program, short visit program in foreign universities, or international conferences. The IUP students are also provided with a special common room, drinks and fast Wi-Fi internet connection.
