Inquiry from UTokyo [School of Science]

My name is Zara Kletz and I work for the School of Science at the University of Tokyo, Japan.

I would like to let you know that our department now runs a selection of study abroad programs which might be of interest to the undergraduate chemistry students at Universitas Gadjah Mada.

If possible, please share information about these opportunities with your students.

Here is a brief description of our programs:

1)     The University of Tokyo Research Internship Program (UTRIP)

UTRIP is a 6-week summer internship program for students majoring in natural science and other relevant fields. It provides students with an opportunity to gain the experience of “real graduate-school life” or “research-centered life.” UTRIP is a gateway to pursuing an advanced degree and experiencing academic life at our university. Participants on UTRIP will also be granted financial support to cover their costs and expenses. They will also get the opportunity to take part in cultural activities and excursions to learn more about Japan.

2)     The Global Science Course (GSC)

GSC is an undergraduate transfer program that was designed to enhance cross-cultural interactions among young minds and foster the next generation of leaders in science. Students study alongside current UTokyo students in an all-English and research-focused academic environment, which includes rotations in world-renowned laboratories. Successful applicants to this program are also provided a monthly scholarship alongside fully supported accommodation. This is an invaluable opportunity for those looking to expand their worldviews and experience something unique during their time as an undergraduate student specializing in the sciences.

3)     Global Science Graduate Course (GSGC)

GSGC is an international graduate program that was recently launched by Graduate School of Science at the University of Tokyo and allows students to obtain their degrees in English. This program welcomes excellent graduates from universities all over the world, fostering world-class science professionals, and standardizes a five-year integrated education scheme in which students attend both the Master’s program and the Doctoral program in sequence. Students on GSGC are also provided with a monthly scholarship during their time on the program and support in finding employment following graduation.

International accreditation at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences

RSC

It is of UGM commitment to be reputable in both national and international levels. Among other well-known universities in Indonesia, UGM is of one the top three in the country from time to time. Also, UGM continuously demands each of the programs (undergrad, M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs) to obtain international accreditation.

Currently, each of study programs in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is accredited by Indonesian Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) with Grade A. It means that each study program performs well at the national level.   However, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences encourages every department and study program to raise their level of accreditation in both regional and international levels.

Chemistry undergraduate program has pioneered to achieve the international accreditation. Since October 2009, the undergraduate program of chemistry has been accredited by the ASEAN University Network (AUN) Quality Assurance. In addition, this undergraduate program has also been granted an international reputation for achieving accreditation by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London. The accreditation is valid until March 2018.

Following the footstep of the undergraduate program in chemistry, the undergraduate program in mathematics has also been active in obtaining international recognition. In 2014, the undergraduate program in mathematics had also been assessed by the AUN-QA. In 2015, the undergraduate program in geophysics has submitted its Self Assessment Report to AUN-QA.
